Ushio To Tora

It centers around the travails and battles of one Ushio Aotsuki (蒼月潮 Aotsuki Ushio), who is constantly being stalked and aided by a gigantic, supernatural and sometimes invisible tiger (Some people describe it as akin to Calvin and Hobbes on acid).

Ushio’s family maintains a Shinto temple in Japan, where ~500 years ago, his samurai ancestor battled that same tiger to a standstill, and eventually trapped him against a rock using a blessed spear called the “Beast Spear”, which in addition to its intrinsic formidability as a weapon, can also boost the physical powers of the user. While cleaning out the temple storage, Ushio accidentally unseals the chamber Tora was trapped in. Initially, Ushio wisely refuses to remove the spear pinning Tora (とら, Japanese for tiger) down, as Tora unwisely makes the strategic blunder of mentioning that the first thing he would do upon being freed would be to devour Ushio; but Tora’s unsealed presence attracts various demons to the premises, and Ushio is forced to free Tora in exchange for his help. The series focuses on their relationship, interspersed with battles against mythological foes, and with Tora’s attempts to grapple with modern life and gobble up Ushio.

Won the Seiun Award for Best Comic of the Year in 1997. It also received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen in 1992.

Then behold, I see the translation on! This story is AWESOME!!!! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this tale. Will you continue to translate this series even with closing their site?

If you need help with this and/or ever plan to drop it, let me know.

If it is Ushio To Tora, I don’t mind taking a couple of hours to work on it.

  8. arararara says:

    Oh, you don’t have a translator? O_o

Let me know the volume and page number that you guys last translated.

I’ll see if I already have it translated and, if not, I’ll try to work on it.

    • Ardneh says:

I have a translator for ushio, but she is busy with her work so it’s not sure when the new chapter will be release. The last her translate is Ushio to Tora Volume 20 Chapter 184 (pg. 99-116). If you really wanna help, I’m very grateful. I’m fan of ushio too and I can wait to read the new chapter.
You can give the link to your translation, or you can send it to

  9. arararara says:

I’ll check on it tomorrow before I go to work.

  10. Shirogane says:

Hi! I’m a huge french fan of all the work about Fujita-sensei. first thing : Thank you for all the work you’ve done about ushio and tora.
second thing : i’ve got one question : Do you know karakuri Circus , the other awesome manga of fujita ? As my concern, It’s my favorite manga of all time but in france, the publishing was stopped at volume 21 so it’s very frustating.

I hope one day, an other team (maybe you ^^) take the lead for this amazing work because, just one american team (the null team) tried to put some volumes, but the publishing is very very very slow. …

I tried to translate it in french with a team one year ago but, as you know, find a good translator with extra time, is a very pain in the ass, so i give up.

So good luck and take care 🙂

  11. arararara says:

That is a little beyond to what I had translated already.
I’ll try to make some time and translate 185 unless you find a translator.

Sorry, having a full time job and being in grad school don’t really help in scanlation time ^^

  12. Yosaime says:

Sigh…I hope this one gets finished soon 😦 I’ve been reading it recently and have already reached 185. It may be an oldie but like the dragon ball series a goodie :p Do you guys have like an average time you release them?

  13. Ahab says:

Just to say a huge THANK YOU for picking up Ushio and Tora!!

I thought it was never gonna get finished when Youkai Scanlations were doing it so imagine my surprise to see how many volumes you’ve done while I’ve been away!!

  21. Andri Wijaya says:

I am wandering if you are doing the translation your self? If that is so, then you must be quite talented 🙂

Where do you get the raws?

  22. Darkanlan says:

Was reading issues 281 and 282 from your downloads and noticed they were the same chapter. also on the downloads 288 seems to be stuck in a loop on mediafire, so it never allows you to actually download it.

    • Ardneh says:

I already download and check them, all just fine. Chp 281 and chp 282 have a same size but the content are different. and I can download chp 288. You should try it again.

  23. KG says:
